Proposing with Pets

Are you looking for an exciting way to pop the question? With so many potential ideas out there, it can be difficult to know which is best suited to you as a couple. If you and your significant other are animal lovers, however, incorporating a furry (or not so furry) friend in your proposal may be the perfect solution. Executing this adorable feat isn’t difficult, but there are a few things you should consider before visiting your local pet store. Here’s what you should know about proposing with pets!

1. It Can Be a New Pet or One You Already Own

You don’t have to buy or adopt a new pet for your proposal. If either of you already own a dog or cat (or any other animal, for that matter), it may be more meaningful to incorporate them instead. There are hundreds of amazing ways to do this, including tying a sign to your dog’s neck or attaching the engagement ring to your cat’s collar. A new pet, however, can be quite a surprise!

2. A Pet Is the Perfect Replacement for a Ring

Some couples are actually opting to forgo purchasing an engagement ring altogether. Not only is a new pet less expensive, but caring for and training it will bring the two of you closer together. Additionally, rings don’t cuddle the way a new puppy does and no one will ever judge how much you love your significant other based on the size of your cat.

3. Using a Rescued Animal Is a Great Idea

With so many lost and abandoned animals in need of caring families, you can feel good about providing one with a forever home. The day you propose will be meaningful and memorable for the rest of your lives. It could be even more exceptional, as adopting a dog, cat, or other critter enhances (and in some cases, saves) a third life as well. Just think, the three of you get to begin a new journey together!

4. The Pictures Will Be Amazing

Animals are adorable. It doesn’t matter if it’s a two month old puppy, a ten year old cat, or a twenty-seven year old box turtle—its presence will greatly enhance photo and video opportunities during your proposal. What’s more? Even exceptionally well-trained animals can surprise you! It’s likely you’ll end up with some brilliantly spontaneous engagement shots the two of you can giggle over for years to come.

5. Your Pet Can Participate in Your Wedding as Well

Whether your pet is a new addition or already a family staple, having it involved in both your engagement and wedding ceremony can be extremely meaningful. This is especially true if it was instrumental in the delivery of the ring (or if it functioned as the ring). There are dozens of ways to do this, from merely incorporating your animal baby in the wedding photos or utilizing it as the official ring bearer. The options are endless and the two of you can have a lot of fun brainstorming ideas together.
