8 Movies to Watch When You Need a Little Wedding Planning Stress Relief

Girl Watching Film

As a soon-to-be bride, downtime is rare. You are forced to carve out time in order to unwind from the stress of planning your big day. One of the best ways to do that is to curl up and watch a movie. But sometimes, whatever is playing on TV just doesn’t cut it. You need something to take your mind off of planning—and maybe even help with some of the emotions you’re feeling. These adorable romantic comedies are perfect to watch with your significant other, friends, pets, or just by yourself. So, put on your comfiest pajamas and grab your favorite snack for a little bride R&R.

1. P.S. I Love You

If you need a reminder of how awesome it is that you are going to spend the rest of your life with your soulmate, this is the movie to watch.

Sometimes, when you are choosing between two different taupes for the reception’s color scheme or two different lilies for your bouquet, you forget just how lucky you are to be in the position you are in. You get to spend the rest of your life with the person you love. No movie is a better reminder to be grateful for your happily ever after than “P.S. I Love You.” This love story is a tear-jerker for so many reasons, but mostly because of how strong the couple’s love is.

2. My Big Fat Greek Wedding

If you have a big (or little) family that sometimes just stresses you out, or you have a dad obsessed with Windex (okay, maybe that’s just Toula), you’ll get a kick out of this movie.

If you have a family that can sometimes get too loud, protective, or overbearing, it can almost feel like these characteristics are multiplying when there is a wedding coming up. “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” can make all the chaos and stress a little better by making you feel like you aren’t the only one with such as a colorful family dynamic. They may drive you crazy, but they’re the ones that will make your special day unforgettable.

3. Under the Tuscan Sun

Dreaming of sand between your toes or strolling through a vineyard with your significant other? If you wish you were on your honeymoon (like yesterday), this film will take you away. “Under the Tuscan Sun” is something to watch for the perfect mini-getaway right from your couch. Although the main character deals with major adversities in her love life, it’s still a movie that can make you feel like you’re in another world (or continent.) It is on Netflix, so stream away and see if it ends up as one of your new favorites.

4. The Wedding Planner

You’re feeling stressed, which is making you stress out about your stress. It’s okay to feel a little bit of relief when you see someone else stressing, right? Well, as long as it’s just a movie. “The Wedding Planner” is that movie, and it is also available on Netflix for your viewing pleasure. Thankfully, this film will make you forget all your worries because the main character has so many. And there’s just the right amount of love and Matthew McConaughey.

5. Age of Adaline

If all the chaos and coordinating is making you feel like love is complicated, take a break and watch “Age of Adaline.” There is no love story as complicated as this one to suck you in and make you forget all the little things. By the end of it, you’ll feel lucky just to be able to live your life as you want and marry the one you love (without being 107 years old). Blake Lively’s styling in the flick can also provide beauty and fashion inspiration for your big day (because WOW she is a stunning elderly lady). This movie can be found on Hulu.

6. Bride Wars

Having bridesmaid drama? Let’s face it, you love each of your bridesmaids, but that doesn’t mean that they all love each other all the time. If they do, lucky you! But, if this is true in your current situation, “Bride Wars” is the perfect movie to turn on to help mediate any bridesmaid situation. It proves that two best friends, no matter how different, can work through their issues and eventually both come out on top. Maybe invite the bridesmaids that aren’t getting along over to watch and (hopefully) bond—just keep blue hair dye far, far away.

7. Because I Said So

Are you feel overwhelmed and need your family’s help? Your mom, sister, or best girlfriends have a big impact on your wedding. Chances are, you are in constant communication with them and sometimes feel like you are a little bridal burden. But don’t! Whether over the seating chart or menu, it’s okay to ask for help. This movie, which is available on Hulu, is a great reminder of the power of family.

8. Wedding Crashers

If you’ve forgotten that your wedding is supposed to be a good time, sit down with your fiancé and watch “Wedding Crashers.” Your relationship is serious, and your vows are serious. We understand. But, there are parts of your wedding that don’t have to be! You should also have a blast, and sometimes it’s easy to forget that. “Wedding Crashers” is the perfect pick when you need a good laugh about the whole wedding thing. It’s almost impossible to keep from laughing throughout this entire movie. Within fifteen minutes, you’ll forget about the budget faux pas you were worried about earlier.
