How to Treat Bacne Before Your Wedding

Backless dresses are one of the most popular and enduring trends in the bridal fashion world. Whether you’re wearing a lace-covered back, an illusion back with a long row of buttons, or simply letting your bare skin show, open-backed gowns are the perfect combination of sophistication and sexiness.

Of course, there is one thing that can ruin your backless bridal look: bacne, those pesky pimples that show up on your back in times of stress (you know, like during months and months of wedding planning). If you suffer from acne on your back, you may have to take some extra steps to make sure your skin looks stunning on your special day. Here are a few tips to help you banish those blemishes!

Switch up Your Wardrobe

You should begin your bacne treatment plan as soon as possible so that you have plenty of time to find the products or skin care regimen that works for you. While you’re looking for that perfect lotion or body wash, the best thing to do is avoid tight-fitting, wet, or sweaty clothing.

Tight-fitting clothing tends to trap sweat and oil against your skin, which can lead to more breakouts on your body. Similarly, wearing sweaty clothes for too long (after a workout, for example) can clog your pores with dirt and oils. Make sure to wear looser clothing, moisture-wicking fabrics when you exercise, and to shower as soon as possible after working up a sweat.

Eat as Cleanly as You Can

Your diet is another major factor in your skin’s overall health. If you’re worried about bacne ruining your big day, you might want to try avoiding foods that are known to cause breakouts. Skip foods that are high in sugar or extra starchy and try your best to avoid processed carbs whenever possible. You might also avoid dairy products, as milk and cheese have been connected with acne in some cases.

Now, every body’s different, so the foods that make your friends break out may not have the same effect on you. Monitor your skin as you adjust your diet and find the combination of healthy foods that work for you! If you’re careful to eat clean and not over-indulge, you’ll have clear, glowing skin when you walk down the aisle.

Try a Benzenol Peroxide Body Wash

Take a look at just about any acne treatment and you’ll find two common ingredients: salicylic acid, which prevents pores from becoming clogged, and benzoyl peroxide, which removes excess oil from the skin. If you experience a sudden bacne breakout in the weeks leading up to your wedding, ingredient #2 should become your best friend.

There are many benzoyl peroxide-based body washes available at your local drug store today. These products will help pull oil out of your skin, helping to minimize breakouts and leave your skin looking clear. Just cover the affected area, wait five minutes to let it really sink into the skin, and rinse it off. In just a few washes, your bacne should start to disappear.

Use a Lightweight Moisturizer

While benzoyl peroxide does a great job of eliminating acne, it does tend to leave your skin feeling dry—not what you want on your wedding day! Thankfully, you can combat the dryness and have soft, beautiful skin by simply adding a lightweight moisturizer to your post-shower skin care routine.

Keep in mind that the key word here is “lightweight.” If your moisturizer is too thick or heavy, it could clog up your pores again, effectively undoing all the work of your body wash. Look for gel-based moisturizers or lotions, avoid creams or ointments, and you’ll be good to go!

Exfoliate (But Only Occasionally)

If your bacne is particularly bad, you may think that a good old-fashioned body scrub is in order. However, this can actually be harmful to your skin! When you’re dealing with a breakout, your skin is already inflamed and irritated. Using harsh, abrasive products like an exfoliant can end up making everything worse.

Instead, deal with breakouts in a more soothing way. Use purifying clay masks or enzyme masks, which will remove impurities from the skin without irritating it further. And if you really, really think your back needs some exfoliating, limit yourself to one treatment a week. This will help you remove dirt, oil, and dead skin cells without making you look red and splotchy.

Keep an On-the-Go Treatment Handy

Most of us live very busy lives and when you’re planning a wedding, you’re busier than ever. The fact is, you may not always have time to do a full skincare routine when you’re running from the gym to the office to a meeting with a wedding vendor! This is why you need to keep an on-the-go acne treatment close by to keep your skin clean.

You should be able to find acne treatment wipes at most major beauty stores. These moist towelettes remove excess oil, sweat, and dirt from your skin, preventing it from settling in your pores and causing a breakout. Throw a package in your purse and use them if you feel yourself getting too sweaty throughout the day.

If you’re careful with your skincare routine (as well as your diet and clothing choices) in the time leading up your wedding, you should have beautiful, glowing skin that looks fabulous in your backless gown!
