  • Michael was great in email and over the phone, but when he showed up on my wedding day I was terribly shocked. He arrived in dirty clothing: jeans, t- shirt, blazer, Velcro sandals and socks. His excuse was that he had no money or time to get proper clothing. I said to him that he should have told me he couldn’t officiate my wedding because he didn’t have any appropriate clothes. He said just to drop him out of the photos! I was very upset. My wedding planner started asking faculty staff for spare clothes, and then a miracle: the chef at the winery where we were getting married said he is an ordained minister and would marry us! Thank you, God! So, my planner had Michael removed from the site. He was very upset about this and demanded $100 to leave (which was his deposit, so I was fine with that.). Very stressful, but all was well in the end.

    responded with the following comments.

I'm sorry to have upset the dear bride, but she has made a number of factual errors. My clothing was entirely clean, I was not wearing a t-shirt but a very beautiful Tommy Bahama silk Jackie Robinson memorial shirt. I was not wearing a blazer, but a silk suit jacket. The trousers had torn a few days before, so I was, being broke at the time, obliged to replace them with brand new jeans. I feel within my rights to point out to the bride that neither she nor her wedding planner ever said a single word to me on the subject of my clothing prior to the wedding. The expressions "formal dress" or "fancy dress" were never used. The couple contacted me a week before their wedding. I simply had no time. If they had specified more formal attire, I would have borrowed the money to run out and buy a suit. She paid me when I arrived and when she said she had made other arrangements, I gave her back three hundred dollars, keeping only my deposit. I had spent sixty dollars on ink cartridges just to print out their ceremony, and another twenty on gas. I lost a day's worth of income at my flower stand. Fortunately, Mother's Day bailed me out and I now have a new suit and fancy new shoes. More importantly, it did go well for the couple, and I am glad.
