History
Built in 1716, the inn was used as a storehouse for arms and provisions during the Revolutionary War. In 1775, British forces marched on Concord, intent on destroying the inn’s cache of supplies. On April 19th, they were met at the North Bridge by local Minutemen, and battle was joined. This marked the beginning of the American Revolution. From 1835 to 1837, the inn played host to the famous essayist, poet, and philosopher, Henry David Thoreau. Thoreau resided at the inn while studying at Harvard. The property was given its current name in 1900. In 2016, it celebrated its 300th anniversary.
