  • He is obnoxious and unprofessional. Extremely difficult to work with. He ruined our wedding at The Old Mill, shut down our bars and would not let the DJ play music in the courtyard. Do not use him!

Since we’re not quite sure who we are responding to, we can only respond with the facts of the evening as follows: Currently all caterers and venues are operating under incredibly strict rules issued through Governor Wolf and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. We currently answer to many different authorities regarding catering and hosting events and weddings, not just at The Old Mill, but everywhere in Pennsylvania. The facts of this event are as follows: • During the planning process this wedding did indeed change several times after meeting with Donald. Any changes made during this process were done with the client’s approval. The ever-changing mandates issued by the authorities dictates, even now, that all wedding and event planning must remain somewhat fluid in order to adhere to the changes in the rules issued by Governor Wolf; • Presently, we are operating under the mandate that there are only 25 guests permitted in the venue at the same time. All weddings and events are to be held completely outside. At all weddings and events, the entrances to the inside of the venues are monitored by personnel to adhere to this strict guideline and to ensure all guests are under mask, especially on the dance floor. Guests were not stopped from dancing but instead were informed that as per the incredible amount of signage and mask stations we set-up everywhere, masks were required on the dance floor. Those that wouldn’t comply were reminded by Security, the entire Conner Team and the DJ all night long. This rule was not a surprise by any stretch; • As clearly stated in the Venue Contract, amplified music is not permitted outside and that is no secret. The clients know this even before booking this venue; • Bars are not permitted inside which is why there were two bars outside in the small courtyard, in addition to the main bar outside where dinner service took place. When the wedding guests proceeded to extend the dancing into the small courtyard, we removed the existing bar product to another area because it turned into a dance area, and by law we can’t have alcoholic drink on the dance floor. Also, because of social distancing rules there was not enough room to have two bars, plus all of the people dancing in that area and still adhere to Social Distancing rules. This was done in order to allow the guests to continue dancing in this area; • Donald was not rude to any guest. While we all have to wear masks throughout the event, it is difficult to communicate and hear with the loud music and under mask. Requesting a guest to comply with the rules does not imply being rude, it is simply that one doesn’t like the message conveyed. The DJ made announcements and even he was confronted for following the rules; • Donald and the Conner Team set-up a complimentary Chilled Champagne Bar, Chilled Ice Water Station, and Cheese and Fruit Board in the Bridal Suite to welcome the bridal party and family upon their arrival. This was not ordered, it was a complimentary nod to welcome and congratulate the Bride and Groom. During this very strange time, our Team does everything possible to keep everyone safe and felt it was best to allow privacy for the safety of the Bridal Party; • While our Sanitizing Manager walked through the event site all evening wiping down all high traffic touch points, she was commended by many guests for our Team’s diligence to keep everyone safe and yet maintain the integrity of the beautiful wedding; • We had several guests that complimented the staff on our team and indicated that the food was outstanding , “not like wedding food”, and asked if we had a restaurant because it was that good; If you are implying that we were difficult and obnoxious because we insisted on following the rules, well, we think the better explanation would be that there was one person who wanted their own set of rules compromising the safety and well-being of others, and we were unwilling to fold under pressure. Not only are we concerned about the safety of all guests and our Team, including Vendors, but we also put an incredible amount of energy and focus on the guest experience and food, which by all accounts were amazing. After a meeting with our two floor managers and speaking with the DJ and wedding planner, by all accounts the guests at this wedding were incredibly happy and felt very safe. For the record, Donald checked with the Bride and Groom throughout the evening and they voiced their pleasure and gratitude, so we are sorry you have a lesser memory, but we honestly feel our Team and Donald went above and beyond. We don’t make the rules, but we do have an obligation to operate safely for our Clients, Guests, Team, Vendors and Community, and we are not willing to compromise everyone’s safety during this pandemic, despite repeated attempts to have our entire Team bend the rules that night, and we think it was totally irresponsible to even anticipate or repeatedly push that we would.
