Myself, my soon to be bride, her mom and dad all went in to do a tasting. This in itself went fine. However when it came time to discuss money, the men were asked to leave the room. This lady then up charged a simple cake and few deserts to a over 5k bill. She took advantage of an eager mother in law to be. When we left we immediately realized this after I and my bride looked at the bill together. She also did not present a contract before demanding a deposit. The contract was not signed, when we contacted this lady about it, we decided to cancel the order. She refused to refund our money. Once I spoke with her husband the dj, he agreed to refund the money. Over 3k deposit. This was the beginning of April, they have made small payments back to us and there is still a balanced owed. it is now the middle of August. our experience has showed us that they are not financially sound, and if you do decide to work with them, be aware they may not be there when it comes time for your wedding, t... Read morehey care nothing for their customers and only their pocket book. We found an other person to do the exact same cake and deserts whom has been on.the food network many times. Her cost doesn't equate to even the deposit we had to put down with creative cakes. Considering all the good reviews, just not what we expected. My last comment, they took advantage, ripped off, and have failed to make it right during this covid-19 pandemic. How heartless can they be.

Creative cakes would like to set the record straight. This client left numerous details out in regards to the actual facts and occurrences.
Creative cakes had five separate phone consultations with this gentleman‘s fiancé. Her main concern was that she wanted a bakery that was extremely detail oriented because the cakes that she was requesting were very realistic and she wanted to make sure that whoever she hired was able to complete her request.
The reason that the gentlemen were asked to leave the room is because the bride was ordering a custom surprise cake for her fiancé.
They were also having two separate events the first event was early in the morning the cake for that event was to be a three tiered hand-painted old style pirate ship that had great detail. She even wanted to see the work that we had done in the past to ensure that we were able to handle the details that she wanted.
The surprise cake for the groom was going to have a sculpted mahi-mahi jumping off the top of the cake. The cake was to look like water with corals and rocks and have a spiny tail lobster peeking out from under one of the rocks. There was also to be a realistic octopus wrapped around the entire cake with its tentacles holding onto it.
The evening event was going to have 250 guests, which they wanted a dessert bar were each guest would be able to sample different desserts. We were requested to make 250 of each cannonball shaped rum balls, cannolis, edible gold coins to go on top of cupcakes. We were also to provide multiple silver trays with octopus, octopus tiered stands and octopus dishes plus an oak barrel for the cake display.
The client spent more than 2 1/2 hours at the bakery discussing the order.
Multiple times I reminded the client that we only had one opening left for the requested weekend of their wedding.
I explained that deposits were nonrefundable multiple times and the client said that she would like to move forward.
They expressed that they were hungry and wanted to leave to go get some dinner and if I could just email the contract. Creative cakes went over the contract in detail with them and the pricing before they left. They agreed upon the price and left a deposit.
Approximately a week and a half later when everything got shut down in the state due to COVID-19 the client called and said that their business was suffering due to the shut down. And that they were not gonna be able to move forward with the event due to cost. At that time I explain to the client that we would be happy to postpone until they rescheduled their date. The client called back a couple days later and stated that she would like her money back because it was too expensive for what they wanted at this time. I explained again that the deposits were nonrefundable only at that time did the client say that she had not signed the contract or emailed it back, so she wanted her money refunded.
At that time I said if she would like to do less detail on the cakes that we would be happy to work within the budget that she had. She then said that she found somebody else and they just wanted their money back. Again I explain that I told her multiple times that the deposit was nonrefundable and that she signed her credit card slip while she was here at the bakery. I then told her that if I could book the date that they were requesting that I would be happy to give her her money back and we agreed to that and had it in writing.

A couple days later Mr. Crotty called the bakery and stated that we had excellent reviews on social media, and that he suggested that we return the money so he didn’t have to write a review.
So my husband agreed to send 50% back, and then another 50% back in a few weeks.
After the initial 50% was sent back to the client, We were made aware By our bank that the client had called the credit card company and stated that they canceled and wanted their money back. The credit card company reimburse them the entire amount.
After calling the credit card company and explaining that we had already sent a check back to the client, we had to call the client to have them Call the credit card company so the money could be put back into our bank account
It took over 2 1/2 weeks to get the money put back into our account from the credit card company. At that time my husband sent another check to Mr. Crotty and the check went on cashed for numerous weeks. My husband finally called to find out if he ever received the check, and Mr. Crotty stated yes it’s sitting on my desk I haven’t had time to cash it.
Social media reviews can be very good or can be very detrimental. There are always two sides to every story. I have documentation to back up everything that I have stated, I even sent a request to WeddingWire to have the review removed. But wedding wire stated that they cannot remove a review based on somebody’s opinion.
We have been in business at the same location for over 25 years, we create extremely elaborate, great tasting cakes for all occasions. Our reviews speak for themselves. But sometimes you have to go out on a limb and protect your reputation, especially when the facts are not accurate.
