  • This was the only vendor whose consultation I left feeling upset. The industry is currently set up in such a way that brides are expected to do hair and makeup trials prior to hiring their beauty professionals. The problem is that the trials cost almost as much as the wedding day services themselves. Once you have invested in a full hair and makeup trial, it feels wasteful NOT to hire the professionals as the money you spent on the trial will be for nothing. The idea of paying another vendor the same amount again just to try them out too seems ridiculous. I highly advise that brides make sure that they are going with a vendor they will really want to hire BEFORE going through with an expensive trial. The stylist who did my makeup through In Style was very friendly and did a beautiful job. The woman who did our hair, however, was a bit of a bully. The website does not reflect what the actual cost of hair will be. There are a lot of added fees and I could not get a straight answer as to ... Read more

    responded with the following comments.

I would like to respond with a factual account of what transpired... 1) This particular bride came in and completed a hair and makeup trial six months prior to her wedding day. She left looking beautiful and confident that we could recreate her desired wedding day look, so much so that she immediately booked services so her date would not be taken by another bride. She never questioned our pricing structure. 2) We didn’t have any communication with the bride prior to her wedding day so the accusation of demanding doesn’t seem to be an appropriate description and actually is inaccurate based on the definition of demanding. 3) We arrived on time, provided our own chair, mirror, makeup and any other items needed to ensure our services go as smoothly as possible for the day and we only request that a small table be provided to place our irons and Bobby pins on. 4) The bride’s mother in law to be sat down in our chair and told us that she has NEVER had a haircut and has never has her hair styled!!!!. This is equivalent to asking a professional to do their job in the same day when you have never prepared for the meeting. Her hair was extremely long, heavy one length hair that went down to her tailbone. If she had visited a salon for a traditional style at any other time it would have taken hours. Nevertheless, she stated that she loved her look & did not request any alterations. 5) The mother of the bride sat in the chair prepared with with a photo from a previous trial and when I was finished she proclaimed that I did a better job than the photo. 6) Subsequently the bride informed me that her mom was to wear a hat that covered the majority of the front of her hairstyle which was contradictory to her pleasure moments ago. 7) I proceeded to style 2 bridesmaids who were more than pleased with their results and did not request any changes. 8) I styled the bride who commented several times how well her hair and make-up had turned out beyond her expectations and when I placed the veil upon her mother started to cry. 9) As far as our contract is concerned & contrary to what the bride had stated, we did NOT add any additional charges on the day of service although we would have been in our right to. In closing I would like to add that the bride booked services with us 6 months prior to her wedding date. If she felt that we were out of her budget, the contract could have been cancelled at any time. I honestly have no idea why she felt the need to attack my professionalism and my character. That, in my opinion, is the definition of a bully. I am confident in my accounting of the events that transpired on her wedding day and in the results that we have delivered to her (and all of the other brides before her) both professional and upstanding service.
