Life is most deeply felt during those moments when we achieve a goal, make a friend, pass a milestone, quietly contemplate, show the magnitude of our love for those around us, or just take a little time to slow down and enjoy ourselves. The memory of those moments fades over time, but can be completely rekindled by a photograph. Who hasn't looked at photographs from their past and been completely transported to that moment? Even good photographs of places or events you weren't part of evoke deep feelings connected to the colors, shapes, people, or events pictured.
My most cherished photographs are not the ones I took, but the ones that bring me back to the view of the ocean from my childhood bedroom in southeast Alaska, a snowball fight with a friend, a day with my wife on the coast of Maine when we were still dating, or my daughter's first trip to the beach. They are moments in time that come back to life when I'm reminded of them in photos.
I believe that everyone needs reminders of the moments in their lives that make them most human – the moments that say something about who we are, connect us to others, or remind us of how deeply we felt during that captured second. I love giving people a tangible connection to those memories through photography. And I'd very much like to give you the same joy as you thumb through your photos years after the moment is passed.
