  • Would give 0 stars if I could. My wedding venue Marina Del Ray partners with this bakery so they confirmed with them 1 year before my wedding that they could make my dream wedding cake- they told me they could for an added charge of 600 dollars which I gladly paid. All year I was so excited for this cake. The day of my wedding when I saw it I was super disappointed. It looked like a cheap knockoff version of my cake. My matre d who was absolutely amazing immediately got them on the phone and the baker told him to put me on speaker. This baker was completely nasty to me on my wedding day telling me it looks exactly like the picture. I was standing with 7 other workers from the Marina who agreed with me that it looked horrible compared to picture. This baker continues to tell me that basically I’m blind and to him it’s identical. Obviously I’m aware at this point there’s nothing that could be done but I would have at least expected an I’m sorry or we’ll make it right in the ... Read more

We’d like to respond to some of the comments that you made. We did not charge you $600, the venue did. A great deal of the expense of this cake was the Swarovski crystals. At no point did you come in or speak to us directly. You did everything through the venue. We knew about this cake for a couple of months, but had you taken the time to come in, or at the very least, look at our website, you would’ve seen examples of our cakes, you would’ve seen the height of the cake that we normally make. If that was such a priority to you, it seems that you should’ve made arrangements to talk to us directly. As for the conversation that took place the night of your wedding, while i was driving, I pulled over to look at the picture you sent. You kept on referring to the shape, which was not the complaint as it turned out. Your complaint was about the height of your cake, which I figured out when I got home. Each tier was bit shorter than the picture, but again, had you spoken directly to us, we would’ve shown you what are cakes typically look like. Had the height difference been made clear, we could’ve resolved this. We would’ve had a discussion about how taller cakes would have more sponge and that the normal ratio of sponge to filling would then be off. At that point we could’ve decided what the best course of action would be. We do understand and are sorry you were disappointed, but we feel that the failure to communicate was shared, not solely ours. We sent a picture to the maitre’d, and there comment was that “it looks better than the original” But at NO point did I call or infer that you were blind. We’ve had actual blind people in our family and would never stoop to that. I get you being disappointed & after giving this some thought over the past few days, I should’ve insisted that you come in prior to your wedding. (That will be the protocol going forward as a result of this, if it’s not from our website of over 1000 pictures, we will require speaking directly to the person ordering the cake.) Perhaps had we spoken after the event, as opposed to during, while you were at the event and I was driving, we would’ve come to an understanding and work something out, but that’s fine, perhaps we’re simply not a match.
