About Us

Washington DC’s popular Satin Doll Trio + is an elegant ensemble that performs for events including private receptions, nightclubs, concerts, corporate events, weddings, or intimate in-home parties. The group can be configured to meet individual event requirements by performing as an intimate trio, or by expanding to a larger quartet or quintet. Their repertoire focuses on music drawn from the Great American era of song in genres that include Jazz, Swing, Latin, and Ballroom. The Satin Doll Trio + always performs at a volume where casual conversation can be enjoyed while creating a warm and refined ambience that is enjoyable for dancing or just listening.

The Trio

The Satin Doll Trio, consisting of Ken Kilpatrick on guitar, Fred Ferris on bass, and vocalist Patrice Ferris, is perfectly suited for cozy settings or smaller events. This configuration focuses on music performed in the intimate and romantic “supper club” jazz style and includes many jazz standards and romantic ballads.

The Quintet

For larger events, or where dancing is desired, the trio expands to the Satin Doll Trio +, a swinging Quintet, that includes drums and saxophone. In this configuration the repertoire is also expanded to include a full compliment of music in the Jazz, Swing, Latin, and Ballroom genres providing an economical "Big Band" sound. The quintet includes percussionist Tim Jarvis, and one of the areas finest horn players, such as Lyle Link, Don Lerman, or Darryl Kennedy.  A quartet configuration consisting of guitar, bass, vocalist, and drums can also be provided.

  • We had the pleasure of having Satin Doll Trio play the cocktail hours for our wedding this past September. Not only did they sound wonderfully, but their stage presence - dog and all - were a hit with all the guests. During their breaks they even let the kids (and grown-up kids) play with the dog. All the guests could not stop raving about how great they sounded - which was just what we had hoped for. They were extremely easy to book - as they were the house band for our venue, but they were also very flexible and accommodating with all of our requests. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to through a successful and fun party!
