About Us

The Temple for Performing Arts is a wedding venue located in Des Moines, Iowa. The venue has been part of the wedding industry since 2002, the year the renovation of this historic building was completed. The Temple for Performing Arts is listed on the National Historical Registry, making it an evocative location for couples who want a classicly themed wedding. Facilities and Capacity
The Temple for Performing Arts has a bride's suite and a groom’s room with full-length mirrors and bright lighting. It also has a 1,200-square-foot recital hall that features large stained glass windows, a trompe l'oeil stone painting, and a beautiful hardwood floor. The Grand Hall is the main highlight of the facility and is architecturally considered the jewel of The Temple for Performing Arts. It is a 4,000-square-foot event space that features beautifully restored stained glass skylights, lavish two-story columns, ornate original light fixtures, and a sculpted ceiling. All in all, the venue can accommodate a maximum of 500 guests.

  • I cannot say enough about the Catering DSM/Temple for Performing Arts team, specifically Sarah. She was absolutely amazing to work with and thought of every little detail for us. We originally had our 300 person ceremony and reception planned for the Temple for Performing Arts, but two months before our date made the decision to reduce it to 15 people (due to COVID) and postpone our reception a year. We ended up keeping our date and moving our 15 person evening to their smaller venue space at St. Kilda Collective... and it was absolutely PERFECT. The food was outstanding! The space was beautiful! We had both our ceremony and reception there and honestly can't imagine it being any different. The flexibility of Sarah & team to change everything two months before our big day was so appreciated by my now-husband and I.
