Uku Clothing specializes in custom shoes for indoor and light outdoor wear.
I design, pattern, and make my shoes, and sell them on Etsy. (If you're not familiar with Etsy, it's like Ebay for handicrafts.)
My shoes feel like a cross between being barefoot and wearing sneakers. I offer different soles for dancing, indoor and light outdoor wear. I stock a range of fabrics or can work with a fabric of your choice. I also have several strap styles and toe shapes to choose from.
My shoes incorporate eco-friendly post-consumer materials (e.g., discarded bicycle tires and felt made from recycled bottles). I "upcycle" what I can! I prefer breathable fabrics like silk and cotton. I use non-toxic printing inks and water-based dyes and glues. Some of my shoes are vegan,
I reinforce my stacked heels and layered soles with hand stitching rather than relying on toxic cement. The screen printing and embroidery in my shop are after my own drawings, and often inspired by my Estonian heritage. Uku (oo-koo) is the Estonian pagan thundergod, and I hope wearing Uku makes you feel like you could steal some thunder!
If you don't see something that you're looking for, please ask for my help -- almost all of my orders are custom and I'd like to work with you!
